Spiny Oyster Shell Naja Necklace

Spiny Oyster Shell Naja Necklace

Red Spiny Oyster Shell set in a sterling silver naja. The silver is hand sawn and stamped with vintage Navajo stamps. It has been oxidized to bring out the stampwork.

The form of the naja as it is today, dates back from Moorish Spain as a symbol used to ward off the evil eye. In the late 1500s and early 1600s, the saddles and bridles of the Spanish Conquistadors were fitted with sterling, crescent-shaped pendants of Moorish origin.

Pendant is 1.25" wide and about 1.5" tall with bail. It comes on an 22" oxidized sterling silver chain.
